I have been thinking about starting a blog for quite some time now, but just like many things these days I never got around to it. However this morning I happened to glance at my calendar and realize that I fly out of this beautiful country in 9days. 9days!!!
So here it goes... an attempt to document my first real trip, and hopefully not the last.
January 6th,2010; I will be boarding a plane in vancouver, destination = BORNEO.
Myself along with 17 other Questers (ie. Students from Quest University, check it out! -> questu.ca) are traveling with Ethical Expeditions (http://ethicalexpeditions.ning.com/) for 2 months in an area of Borneo known as East Kalimantan.
Our trip takes us through different communities, research stations and natural environments, with the hope that we can begin to understand the scope of the deforestation that the island is facing and the effects that it is having on us back in North America.
I am going into this trip open-minded and somewhat ignorant. I am prepared to be pushed out of my comfort zone as all my experiences will be firsts.
I will attempt to keep all of you back home posted on my day to day adventures (we should be having internet access every week), and hopefully will be able to load some video blogs along the way.
You can also follow us on the ethical expeditions website, where you will be able to get a different perspective of the travels from some other students.
I feel like I have been pretty brief on the whole explanation of our purpose and goals of the trip but I wanted the keep my first blog short and sweet.
So for now, I am out. The sun is shining outside and I must take advantage of this winter wonderland before I am jetted of to 40degree weather and rain :)
Thanks for reading!
till further blogs,
Nadine
